Running a pellet press from the drive of a tractor may seem like a good idea to many people. First many implements are run from a tractors PTO, why should a pellet mill be any different? First its not very safe, with the pellet press you will be stood next to the PTO shaft for long periods of time, therefore making it more likely you may come into contact and hurt your self. In terms of the process power from a PTO is not ideal for a pellet press. First the good pellet machines require several motors running at different speeds to control the process, the PTO can only provide one source of power unless it powered a hydraulic pack. Then also comes to cost in terms of diesel. It is significantly more expensive to run a pellet press from diesel power than using electricity. So as you can see while some pellet press manufacturers offer a pellet press option, you will find this offered by any quality pellet press brands.
